Calculator Use

Calculators that graph, scientificand multi-function computers are acceptable or offered for certain practices (r) tests. If it is not specifically clarified that a specific calculator is allowed for a specific test Calculators are not allowed to be used.

Test takers are not allowed to use calculators with others.

Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator

In general, unless it is explicitly stated that a certain type of calculator is allowed or necessary for a specific test, calculators cannot be used in every Practice test.

Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator

You may use a quadruple or scientific calculator for test. Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, although it is not required to do so. You'll need to bring your own calculator to the testing centre. The calculator is not available on the day of the exam. A graphing calculator cannot be allowed in this test.

Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted

The following items are not allowed on Praxis Praxis

  • Laptops, laptops, and handheld computers
  • Electronic pads for writing
  • Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
  • Calculators on any phones and watches as well as on other electronic devices
  • Models with QWERTY or any other alphabetic keys as part of hardware or software
  • Models with printers
  • Models that create noise or "talk"
  • Designs that will require an outlet
  • Models that connect to the internet OR have wireless or Bluetooth (r) capability.
  • Models that include a camera, scanning capability or players that record digital audio or video

Additionally, the use of hardware peripherals is prohibited.

Tests That Provide an On-screen Calculator

Calculators provided by test takers are not allowed in Praxis exams that have calculators with on-screen displays.

On-Screen Scientific Calculator

This set of tests in the Praxis tests use an onscreen scientific calculator. The tests make use of an TI-30XS MultiView(tm) calculator. A tutorial is provided so you can try out the on-screen calculator before your test day.
